      Troop 37 Newport Beach

Troop meetings are held every Tuesday night from 7:00-8:00 pm in the Lido Island Community Association (LICA) club house, 701 Via Lido Soud, Newport Beach.  Parent planning meetings are generally held every 2nd Tuesday of the month instead of Troop meetings.

All boys and their parents interested in Scouting are always welcome at the meetings.

Cub Scout Dens are encouraged to contact us for a visit by one of our Scout Masters and to attend one of our meetings.  Second year Webelos can contact us to join on one of our exciting camping and hiking trips.

The Next Meeting: Tuesday May 22nd.  This is Elections night for the Troop 37 Scout Leadership positions.

Our next meeting, on May 22, will be Troop 37 elections.  If you would like to run for Senior Patrol Leader or Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, please let Mrs. Crossley know.  You will also need to be prepared to give a short campaign speech to your fellow Scouts on why you would make a good leader for the troop.  Both of these positions are excellent leadership positions that provide valuable experience for all our older Scouts, especially those considering the attainment of the Eagle rank.

Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader elections will also be held, and Scouts working on Star or Life ranks should consider running for one of those positions in their patrol.

Finally, below are all the possible leadership positions.  Those not mentioned already are appointed.  These positions also qualify as leadership, but the new Senior Patrol Leader in conjunction with the Scoutmasters appoint Scouts to these positions.  Scouts wishing to be appointed to one of the leadership positions should make those wishes known to the new Senior Patrol Leader after all the elections are over.

Sincerely,
Assistant Scoutmaster Wu

Venture Patrol Information

Hello Troop 37,

Are you a member of Troop 37's Venture Patrol?  Are you a Scout at least 13 years of age who would like to ratchet it up to the next level?  Are you the parent of a Troop 37 Venturer or potential Venturer?  Get trained and learn how to stay safe as you engage in Scouting High Adventure.

Venturing is Scouting's answer for Scouts looking for even more adventure.  From backpacking trips like our summer long term trip, to shooting handguns, to skydiving - our older, tougher Scouts have more options as a Venturer.

With excitement comes training to keep everyone safe.  For both youth and parent leaders, the Orange County Council offers a Venturing Training Day this April 14th.  See the attached flyer, and if you're interested, please take the class.

George Wu, ASM

Hello Troop 37 Venture Patrol,

As I mentioned at the last meeting, the Orange County Council is hosting a Venturing Shootout.  Shooting is one of our most enjoyable activities, and Venturing takes it to another whole level.  Do you have what it takes to show the rest of the Orange County troops just how great Troop 37 is?

     I
've attached the flyer and permission slip.  If you register, please also let your Venture Patrol Leader and Mr. Wu know so that we can coordinate.

Thanks,
Mr. Wu

Hello Troop 37,

There is 1 additional Life to Eagle Project Workshops planned by the Orange County Council.  If you are a Life Scout or the parent of a Life Scout, one of these workshops can help you get started on your Eagle project.  I have a flyer stating October 27, 2012 as another scheduled workshop, but it's not up on the Council web site yet.

Cheers,
George Wu
